Mentally ill man smashes 12 cars in Ghatkopar

MUMBAI: A mentally ill reportedly smashed glasses of 12 cars that was parked on the roadside near residential buildings in Pant Nagar on Wednesday midnight. The matter came to light when people, who owned the cars, woke up on Thursday morning to wash their vehicles and found the glasses smashed and a big stone inside, said the Pant Nagar police.

The miscreant was caught by the patrolling police early morning when they found him trying to smash a car with a big stone. "The person has been detained and was brought for questioning. He is mentally-ill and is suspected to have committed without knowing the repercussion. We are trying to get in touch with his family members to get medical examination done," said Pant Nagar police senior inspector Suresh Nirmal.


One of the victims, Vinayak Shanbhag's, a resident of Ghatkopar (East), Maruti car glasses was smashed by the mentally-ill man. "Neither I nor others who suffered damages to their cars knew the man. He had gone damaging all the cars that were parked in the lane. I came to know about the damages when I got call around 5.30am on Thursday on my intercom from the building watchman," Shanbhag told TOI.


Later Shanbhag rushed to the police station and registered a complaint after learning many of them has registered complaint.
