BMC to hold area-wise heritage hearing meetings

MUMBAI: Taking note of growing response of citizens to proposed heritage draft, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to hold area-wise hold heritage hearings instead of civic headquarters. This will ensure more participation of people in this process, said civic officials.

According to the civic officials, the heritage hearings for wards A, B, C, D and E will be held in BMC headoffice. F/South, G/South and G/North hearings will be held in G/North (Dadar) ward office. The venues for eastern and western suburbs will be announced later.

As a part of this process, the BMC has organised the next hearing of Shivaji Park heritage issue in the G/North ward office on December 9. The first meeting was held in the BMC headquarters on November 29. According to the civic officials, several senior citizens are coming for the heritage hearing and it becomes difficult for them to come all the way to CST. Hence it has been decided to hold the hearing near to their residence.

The review committee appointed by the civic body will meet local residents to hear the suggestions and objections on the new proposed heritage list, which has tagged Shivaji Park area as the heritage structure.
