Cellphones worth Rs 10 lakh stolen

MUMBAI: Unknown thieves reportedly broke into a mobile store in Nalasopara (east) and stolen cellphones worth Rs 10 lakh in the wee hours of Monday.

The Nalasopara police said that the thieves broke into Mobile Zone shop outside the railway station at Nalasopara (east) using gas cutters.

The closed circuit television (CCTV) installed inside the shop was damaged by the thieves.

The shop owner Mohammed Shaikh told the police that around 10 lakhs worth of cell phones were robbed. He said the stock had just arrived.

Police believe it to be the job of an insider as the newly arrived stock of cell phones was stolen while the old stock was left behind.

A case under sections 461 (housebreak) and 380 (theft) of the IPC has been registered.
