Doing a Marathi film is out of choice and not because of the inability to do it in Hindi: Amol Palekar

Having been frequently asked, why Marathi and why not a Hindi film? Actor-filmmaker Amol Palekar told us, "Doing a Marathi film is out of choice and not because of the inability to do it in Hindi."

The actor whose Marathi film 'We Are On - Houn Jau Dya' , co-directed with wife Sandhya Gokhale, received mixed responses at the BO, hasn't changed anything for the ace filmmaker. "As filmmakers we strongly believe that when we make a film, the language of the film is chosen by the subject and the content. If a film needs to be made in Marathi, it will be made in Marathi. We don't go by the market compulsions and we have been fortunate enough to be able to do that," shared Amol.

On Hindi cinema, the actor believes that so much has changed that is is difficult to make something that is not mainstream. "The moment I say I am making a Hindi film, the immediate question would be, who is your starcast. Is there a Khan or is there an item number?"
