3 CISF personnel shot dead by colleague at Kalpakkam atomic plant in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Three Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel guarding the atomic power plant at Kalpakkam near Chennai were killed and two others were injured when one of their colleagues opened fire on them on Wednesday morning.

Police said the incident happened inside the barracks where the security personnel were taking rest early in the morning. The reason for the attack was not known, police said.


The accused, head constable Vijay Pratap Singh, was nabbed and handed over to police.


The deceased were identified as CISF head constables Mohan Singh, hailing from Rajasthan, Subburaj, a native of Chinnareddy Patti near Virudhunagar, and assistant sub-inspector Ganesan, hailing from Salem.


The bodies the deceased were taken to the Government Hospital in Chengalpet for postmortem.


CISF assistant sub-inspector P Singh and head constable Govardhan Singh, who suffered injuries, were admitted to Chettinad Hospital on the outskirts of Chennai.


Police said the barracks were located close to the seashore at Kalpakkam. There were at least 50 more CISF personnel when the shootout happened.


The CISF head constable used a 9mm carbon rifle to attack his colleagues.


CISF senior officers have rushed to the scene. Further investigations are on.
