In a statement, Tami Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa said, "The unprecedented floods and landslides have caused extensive damage to property and taken a heavy toll of lives. This has also caused untold sufferings to the people of the state and tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir. As a token of the support and solidarity of the government and people of Tamil Nadu with the government and people of Jammu & Kashmir in their hour of need, I have ordered the immediate contribution of a sum of Rs 5 crore from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund to the government of Jammu & Kashmir."
The Central Government has declared the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir as a national disaster. The Army has evacuated more than 15,000 people from inundated areas in the state.
"On behalf of the state government and people of Tamil Nadu, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family members of all those who have lost their lives in the colossal tragedy," the chief minister said.
"Jammu and Kashmir is faced with the arduous task of ensuring immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood ravaged areas and reconstruction of the devastated areas. The government of Tamil Nadu stands ready to render any other assistance as may be required by the government of Jammu and Kashmir," the chief minister said.
