Mumbai cops want to subject rape accused DIG to voice layer testing

MUMBAI: Sunil Paraskar, deputy police inspector, accused of raping a young model, on Saturday appeared before the police authorities and recorded his statement. He has been given interim bail in the rape case. Meanwhile, the police are planning to conduct a voice layer test on Paraskar to establish if he was speaking the truth.

Paraskar also told the court that he was willing to complete his statement before the police and also give his voice sample. "Once we conduct Paraskar's voic layer test in a forensic lab, forensic experts will analyse the dejection. We are taking all the efforts for a water tight case," said a police officer. Voice layer test is not admissible in the court as evidence. However, it can help investigators for further investigation. Paraskar has not given his consent in writing so far about the test. "He wants to know what the test is all about before he is subjected," said the officer.

A model had last month alleged that Paraskar had molested and raped her. The police have conducted panchanama at various places like a bungalow in Madh Island and a flat at Navi Mumbai where the incidents are alleged to have happened. Paraskar, 57, is currently posted at state police headquarters. The survivor alleged that the rape took place when Paraskar was additional commissioner of police in north region in the city.

The police have so far recorded the statements of Paraskar on several occasion and has been insisting on his custodial interrogation.

"We are trying our best to oppose his bail application. This is a sensitive case where a senior police official has been alleged for rape. We are going on the right track and the probe is being done in a transparent manner. We want to question Paraskar in our cusody and will oppose his bail," said the officer.
