VIJAYAWADA: Irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has said that the government is planning to provide water to about 2.59 lakh acres by completing 223 lift irrigation schemes in 13 districts. He said that they would complete all the projects in next five years. Reviewing the progress of pending projects with Irrigation Development Corporation (IDC) officials here on Friday, minister directed the engineers to get the plans ready for completion of 103 lift irrigation projects within next two years. He said that the government would grant Rs.630 crore for completing the projects as it would help provide water to 1.6 lakh acres. He said that economic imbalances could be resolved only by providing irrigation waters to the upland areas in rayalaseema and coastal districts. Minister said that Krosuru-Ananthavaram lift irrigation project constructed with a cost of Rs.117 crore would be dedicated to the farmers on September, 7. He said that about 8500 acres would get waters under the project. APIDC joint managing director M Venkateswarlu, Chief engineer Giridhar, Delta chief engineer Ramesh Babu and SEs from 13 districts were present at the meeting.
