MUMBAI: The traffic police took action against vehicle of Mumbai suburban collector, Shekhar Channe, on Thursday for using tinted glass on the vehicle. The traffic police also took against many policemen for riding their bikes without helmet.

The police also fined several policemen and BMC employees for violating different traffic rules. Senior traffic police inspector Sujata Patil said "The collector's driver was alone in the vehicle at the time of the police action. We removed the black film from the vehicle and fined the driver. We took action against more than 100 traffic offender on Thursday; many of them were government employees."

"Using tinted glass is violation of SC order. Motorists should remove black film from their vehicles glass or we will take action against them" said Kaisar Khalid, additional commissioner of police (traffic).

In 2012, the Supreme Court had ordered a complete ban on use of tinted plastic films irrespective of the degree of visibility on windscreens and other glass panels of vehicles throughout the country. The court instructed the police officers to not only issue challans but also remove the black films from the offending vehicles.

A PIL was filed in the court stating that cars with black film on window panes were being increasingly used for crimes, including sexual assault of women.
