"At present, there are no chances for a Third Front but this is for sure that the role of regional parties will be very crucial in the formation of the next government in 2014," Sharad Yadav said.
The former Union minister said both the Congress and BJP would not be able to cross 100-125 seats each out of the 543 at stake and more than half of it would be shared by regional parties. He was here to pay tributes to former SAD president Sant Harchand Singh Longowal on his 28th death anniversary.
The JD(U) chief said Congress and BJP had lost faith of the masses and they together won't be able to win even half of the seats. In this scenario, only the regional parties will rule the roost.
Sharad Yadav said his party is in favour of the food security bill to be tabled in Parliament on Monday, but with certain riders. He said though the Union government is pitching for providing food to poor, it is insensitive towards storage and distribution of the grains.
At the function, the Sanjha Morcha gave a clarion call to defeat the anti-people SAD-BJP alliance. The Morcha comprising People's party of Punjab (PPP), SAD (Longowal), CPI and CPM, keeps equidistance from SAD and Congress.
Morcha chairman Manpreet Badal, paying tributes to Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, blamed the SAD government for rising corruption and unemployment in the state. Manpreet said economic condition of Punjab is in such a mess that Punjab is raising loans even to pay interest on loans.
Assam chief minister P K Mahanta was also present.
