Tepal case: Former Tehelka staffers appear before Goa magistrate

PANAJI: Three former Tehelka staffers recorded their statements on Friday in a local court in Panaji in connection with the Tarun Tejpal sexual assault case.

The judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) recorded the statement of one of the three journalists.

For the investigating agency - the crime branch of Goa police - the statements of the journalists are crucial as it will strengthen the case of the prosecution, sources said.

The next step for the prosecution would be to get the former managing editor of Tehelka Shoma Chaudhury's statement recorded by the magistrate. Chaudhury has already been intimated by the crime branch, sources added.

Tejpal was arrested on November 30, after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by a local court.

Remanded in six-day custody, Tejpal would be produced before a magistrate for further remand.
