Concerns raised over SP government's Hamari Beti Uska Kal scheme

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi party government's decision to reduce the allocated amount under 'Hamari Beti Uska Kal' scheme has evoked deep resentment amongst people at large. The state government recently decided to reduce the allocation from Rs 30,000 to Rs 20,000 for each Muslim girl.

People see it as an 'anti-women' step on the part of the state government. "This is going to lead to apprehension amongst the people," said the president of Kaumi Kalyan Manch, UP, Surendra Nath Trivedi. He said that the state government could have cut back elsewhere or arranged the amount for the scheme that finds a mention in the SP election manifesto.

"But the state government has cheated the women of the state by reducing the amount," Trivedi said.

The amount was meant for educating the girl child as well as financially helping poor parents who could not afford the education of their girl child.

The association has demanded that the allocation should not be only restricted to girl children of the minority community. Instead, its scope should be widened further for OBC as well as general category students as well.

The association said that the state government should rethink its decision.
