Modi praise: KPCC may slap show-cause on Tharoor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All splinter groups in the Congress united on Tuesday to convince the KPCC to slap a show-cause notice on Shashi Tharoor, MP, for his open praise for PM Narendra Modi's initiatives, including the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.

Sources told TOI that senior leaders, including president V M Sudheeran and CM Oommen Chandy will meet on Wednesday to discuss the issue. The meet is likely to urge the AICC to initiate "appropriate action including stripping Tharoor of the official spokesman tag''.

While home minister Ramesh Chennithala confirmed that the meeting will convey displeasure to party high command, Chandy refused to comment. The mood in the party, sources said, is to stop with nothing short of Tharoor's suspension. This reflected in the editorial of 'Veekshanam'. The party mouthpiece, without naming Tharoor, said any form of threat to a system must be ruthlessly axed.

Youth Congress leader T Siddique, however, expressed solidarity with Tharoor maintaining that Swachch Bharat campaign was a copy of Congress's Nirmal Bharat exercise and criticism was not warranted.
