Hit-and-run case: Key witness says Salman Khan was in SUV's driver's seat

MUMBAI: A witness in the trial of actor Salman Khan who is facing serious charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder for killing a pavement dweller and injuring four others in a 2002 case said it was the actor who was sitting in the driver's seat before the vehicle left the restaurant in Juhu.

A attendant working at the Juhu restaurant was the first witness on Thursday on the stands in the trial. In his examination in chief by the public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat, he said he had seen Salman Khan sitting in the vehicle while it was stationary outside the restaurant before they left. He said he saw Khan's body guard standing outside on the right side of the vehicle and Kamal Khan sitting behind in the back seat behind the actor.

In the cross examination later by the actor's lawyer Shrikant Shivade who quizzed Kalpesh Verma, the witness, about the exact location of Kamal Khan, he said he was sitting in the backseat but on the left side of the vehicle.
