CHENNAI: The court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate (economic offences) in Chennai on Thursday adjourned hearing in the income tax case against J Jayalalithaa and her confidante Sasikalaa to October 16.
When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, prosecutor K Ramasamy said though the Madras high court dispensed with the personal appearance of the accused, the trial should be completed within the timeframe fixed by Supreme Court. Judge R Dakshinamurthy then posted the matter to October 16. The two are facing cases for their alleged wilful failure to file tax returns for the years 1992-93 and 1993-94.
