NEW DELHI: Congress on Friday complimented Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yusufzai for winning the Nobel peace prize, pointing out that a joint award to individuals from Pakistan and India underlines the need for peace between the neighbours.
AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, "It is an irony. The joint prize to an Indian and a Pakistani sends a message that conflict resolution must be the norm now and should be taken up quickly. The symbolism and lesson of this award should not be lost on anyone."
Party chief Sonia Gandhi congratulated the winners, saying the awards have brought glory to entire South Asia.
