Centre to develop Andhra Pradesh’s airports

SRIKAKULAM: The Centre will take measures to develop airports and introduce more flight services in Andhra Pradesh, said Union civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju.

Speaking to mediapersons at Etcherla in Srikakulam district on Sunday, he said Vizag, Vijayawada ,Tirupati and Rajahmundry airports are on the Centre's radar for introducing more flights. The government plans to bring the airport at Kadapa into operation.

He, however, cautioned that a new airport in Visakhapatnam will be viable only if the flight traffic increases at the existing airport.

He said the government is also examining the need to set up an aviation academy at Puttaparthi following a request from the state government.
