Ceasefire violations: Fall in border firing after week-long violence

NEW DELHI: According to TV reports, there has been a decline in firing from the Pakistani side along the international border in Jammu & Kashmir.

Until now, eight people have died in the week-long violence in the state and over 60 have been left injured.

India strongly warned Pakistan that it would have to suffer "unaffordable costs" for its "adventurism" amid heavy-duty mortars from both countries continuing to boom across the International Border (IB).

Earlier this week, PM Modi had given the forces a "free hand" to handle the situation.

Both the countries have been concentrating their firepower in the shape of 82mm mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns along the IB, which has led to civilian casualties on both sides due to the existence of border hamlets there unlike the LoC.
