Actors forced to say ‘no’ to Navaratra appearances

Come Navaratra, and TV actors are flooded with requests to attend special dandiya celebrations. This time, however, the artistes, already battling long work hours, are forced to decline these offers owing to busy shooting schedules

It's no secret that TV actors enjoy a huge fan following, which is why when it comes to dandiya functions during Navaratra, they are a huge hit with the organisers who don't mind spending a few lakhs to get them on board. While for the organisers, roping in TV actors guarantees huge footfalls, the actors in return get an opportunity to interact with their fans. However, a lot of TV actors this time had to decline these offers because of their packed shooting schedules and festive tracks that required them to be in every frame. Even last year had to decline invitations.

Shashank Vyas of Balika Vadhu, says, "Even last year I was invited to attend many dandiya events, but due to a high point in the track, I couldn't afford to go and this time also, the situation remains the same. I have got invites from Indore and Ahmedabad, but I had to decline the offers."

Shooting day and night, therefore, have no time. Ankit Gera and Roopal Tyagi of Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke are facing similar issues. Ankit says, "These appearances guarantee good money and are a great way to meet the viewers and get their feedback. I have received many invitations for pandal visits in Mumbai and Gujarat. But we have been shooting day and night for our show, and there is absolutely no time."

His co-star, Roopal echoes similar views and adds, "I have been invited to many events in Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi and Rajasthan, but I have been very busy with my show. The current track revolves around my onscreen sister's wedding, which is very important. Besides this, the track will also show how there are certain issues in my married life. I am not even getting proper sleep. As daily soap actors, we have no time for festivals." Had to cancel plans at the last minute Ravi Dubey of Jamai Raja, says, "I have received many invitations for Navaratra functions, but the schedule is so tight that I am unable to manage my shoot timing. I have always enjoyed this festival. In fact, I had accepted one invitation from Guwahati, but when I figured out that it would require me to be there for a couple of days, I decided to drop it. At present, the sequence's focus is on my character. And I can't just leave everything."

Shooting schedules are gruelling- Divyanka Tripathi of Ye Hai Mohabbatein, says, "I got several invites this time, but I could only accept a couple of them. My show airs six days a week, which means we are shooting the entire week without any off days. However, my production house was supportive when I took two days' off to attend a few dandiya functions. Whenever I go to these functions, I dance and mingle with the people, and I thorougly enjoyed interacting with the audience during the two functions that I attended."

Festive tracks mean more work- Shakti Arora of Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi, says, "Our show has a Gujarati backdrop and hence Radhika (his co-star) and I got several invitations. I had received invitations from Surat, Rajkot, Kolkata, Mumbai and Daman and Diu. I could have managed to get an off on the weekend, but since all the functions were happening on weekdays, I couldn't make enough time to attend these functions. In fact, I have been feeling under the weather, but there will be special festive tracks in the next few weeks, and we have been shooting for that, so there is no way I can not shoot."

Sneha Wagh says, "I have always loved this festival and I look forward to some dandiya raas every year, but this time around, I could manage to go for only one Navaratra function, and that too in Mumbai. Practically, it is not possible to go to many places as the shooting schedule is quite hectic. Also, even though we might be shooting for 12 hours, a lot of time is spent in commuting. Our show is six days a week, which means that we have to put in extra effort so that the show doesn't suffer."
