While accusing chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu of wasting funds, Rambabu cited the example of finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu spending Rs 80 lakh for the renovation of his chamber at the secretariat. Displaying the bills, he said that Ramakrishnudu's staff had spent Rs 4 lakh on a TV set. "Is there any TV set costing Rs 4 lakh. Even if it is there, the minister should have not bought it given the financial situation prevailing in the state," he added.
Rambabu also trained his guns on the speaker, who is scheduled to leave for Cameroon on October 2 for the Commonwealth Speakers' Conference. He charged that the speaker was enjoying a foreign jaunt to Mauritius and Cape Town using the tax payers' money. He even doubted the motive of the visit, with Mauritius and Cape Town having the dubious distinction of being havens for double taxation frauds and hawala transactions.
"We can understand that the speaker is visiting Cameroon to attend the Speakers' Conference. But what is the purpose of his post-conference visits to Mauritius and Cape Town?" he queried. He also raised fingers at the government for spending Rs 30 lakh on the speaker's new car when the existing car was in a working condition.
