Man held for beating up his two kids

Mumbai: The Vakola police arrested a man for allegedly battering his sons, aged five and six, and who have now been admitted to a hospital.

Gangaram Chaupal, 41, works in a shop and lives at a Vakola slum along with his wife and their children. He burned one of the children with cigarettes and smashed the other's teeth after assaulting him with a rolling pin, the police said.

The wife was present in the house at the time of the incident and the police are checking her role. The police will send the children to a welfare home after they are discharged.

The accused was upset with the children while they were playing at home on Monday. After a while he attacked one of them with the pin and burnt the other. The children cried for help but their mother did not interfere, the police said.

Neighbours intervened, informed the police, and took the children to hospital. Chaupal was arrested after a neighbour filed a police complaint.
