MUMBAI: An office boy at ex MLA BashirMoosa Patel's office committeed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling on Friday morning. The deceased, Obaid-ur-Rehman, 23, was frustrated due to frequent fight between his wife and mother, said police.
Rehman, who originally belonged to Murshidabad in West Bengal, had been working at Patel's Chakala office near Sandhurst Road railway station for the last four years. "Rehman came at around 9.30 am to the office, collected main door keys from the neighbor and went inside the office. The suicide came to light only after Patel's driver arrived after half an hour and opened the door. He was shocked to see Rehman hanging from the ceiling," said Sunil Kavalekar, senior inspector, Pydhonie police station.
Rehman got married a year ago and was staying in Mumbai. "He would send money to his family every month. However, there would be frequent fight between his mother and wife over the distribution of money. Whenever they fought, Rehman's wife would call him up and complain. Fed up with the quarrels, Rehman ended his life," said Kavalekar. Rehman's cell phone record show that he spoke to his wife for on Thursday at 9.23 pm for the last time. His body will be flown to west Bengal for burial. Police have registered an accidental death case and probed is on.
Patel could not be contacted for his comments.
