The 17-year-old survivor got married on June 4 and lived with her husband and father-in-law at Ketkipada in Dahisar (E).
Her husband, a driver, would leave home by 5 am and return late.
On September 6, the survivor's husband woke up at 4 am. After getting ready, he left for work around 4.45 am. At that time, his father was asleep in the balcony.
"After his son left, the accused crept into his daughter-in-law's bedroom and raped her," inspector Uday Rajeshirke of the Dahisar police station said. "He threatened her against disclosing it to anyone. On September 7, the victim was raped again after her husband left for work."
The survivor confided in her mother, but the accused threatened even her.
On Thursday, the survivor's mother dialled 100 and a police vehicle was dispatched to Ketkipada. A woman officer recorded the survivor's statement and a case was registered against the accused under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC. By then, the accused had fled.
"The accused was a labourer," Rajeshirke said. "We are looking for him."
