HYDERABAD: The chief minister's visit to Golconda Fort to inspect the preparations for Independence Day celebrations was marked with difficulties for tourists who were asked to vacate the historic structure before his arrival.
Tourists, both foreign and domestic, were reportedly forced out of the fort around 1 pm, hours before chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's arrival around 5.30. Witnesses said that on certain occasions, security agencies behaved rudely with visitors.
Roads and approaches to the fort were also blocked, which threw traffic out of gear for hours.
The chief minister has reportedly instructed officials to level the 18 Seedi land parcel on the west side of the fort so that tableau presentation can be made, a move that has made heritage activists express their concern.
"Heavy machinery is being seen there. This is most alarming as permission from Archaeological Survey of India has to be sought before such work is carried out," said activist Mohammed Afzal.
