State presidents of RJD, Congress and JD (U) met at the residence of JD (U) state chief Bashishtha Narain Singh on Friday. State RJD president Ram Chandra Purbey told Singh the leadership issue of the alliance should have been avoided. He said RJD president Lalu Prasad has instructed him to convey the feelings of party workers that the issue of leadership of the alliance should be decided after the election.
Purbey told Bashishtha any action or word which weakens the alliance should be avoided. RJD sacrificed Parbatta assembly seat in the forthcoming bypolls in favour of JD (U) for the sake of alliance. In 2010, he said, the RJD had won this seat.
The RJD leader later told TOI workers of the three parties would make sure the votes of their respective parties were transferred to the alliance nominees.
State Congress president Ashok Chaudhury told TOI the state presidents of the three parties would again meet at Bashishtha's residence on Saturday morning and leave for Mohania together. At Mohania, Bhagalpur and Mohiuddinnagar, workers of the three parties would meet on August 9, August 11 and August 12 respectively. At Mohania, the meeting is scheduled at Kushwaha Bhawan. "No (joint) public meeting is scheduled in the first phase of campaign," he said.
Asked if Lalu and Nitish would share dais during the campaign, Bashishtha said they would address a meeting at Chhapra only. Former CM Nitish Kumar will address an election meeting on August 13 at Bhagalpur. After the leaders' meeting, Bashishtha went to Nitish's house to brief him about the deliberations.
