Potholes, rain and breakdowns make for day of slow traffic in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Potholes and rainfall severely hit vehicular movement on Tuesday morning, particularly on the Western Express Highway (WEH).

Vehicle breakdowns at various locations such as Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), Andheri and Goregaon on the highway, Elphinstone bridge, near the Mankhurd exit on the Eastern Express Highway and at Daulat Nagar in Borivali (E) compounded the problem.

At 10 am, traffic moved very slowly from JVLR towards Hiranandani Complex in Powai and on Malad SV Road, said authorities.

A snarl-up on the Freeway extended up to Chembur.

"South-bound movement was affected on the Eastern Freeway due to a mishap before Sewri," a motorist said. "Two cars had collided with one of them stalled in the centre of the stretch."

On the WEH, a motorist said it took 40 minutes to cover the 6 km from Kandivali (E) to Goregaon (E) at 10 am. "It was because of the potholes at Dindoshi," the motorist said.
