Karat emphasises on 'Left Unity', urges party men to counter communal forces

LUCKNOW: National general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Prakash Karat on Friday admitted that politics in Uttar Pradesh have taken a turn toward right alignment, a reason for the party to take notice of.

Addressing party members and office bearers at the start of the two-day state committee meet held at the party office, Prakash Karat said, "In UP, the politics has moved towards right-oriented parties, and it is certainly a challenge for the party."

He further stated that the meeting has been called to chalk out an effective strategy to find a suitable answer to this phenomenon. The CPIM general secretary also emphasised on Left Unity, in order to keep the communal forces at bay, not only in Uttar Pradesh, but also throughout the country.

Central committee member JS Majumdar also participated in the meeting, in which party workers discussed a host of national and global issues, and the party's stand on the said issues.
