Jayalalithaa restructures AIADMK parliamentary party, sidelines Maitreyan

CHENNAI: A few days after AIADMK leader M Thambidurai was elected as Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, party supremo J Jayalalithaa on Monday restructured the parliamentary party.

Jayalalithaa sidelined party's Rajya Sabha floor leader V Maitreyan and appointed recently elected Rajya Sabha member A Navaneethakrishnan as the deputy leader of the AIADMK parliamentary party.


According to a press release from the party, Venugopal would be the leader of Lok Sabha as well.


Trichy MP P Kumar would be the deputy leader of the party in the Lower House.


Sriperumbudur MP KN Ramachandran will be the whip of the party in the Lok Sabha. Thiruvannamalai MP R Vanaroja and Kallakurichi MP K Kamaraj have been appointed treasurer and secretary of party's Lok Sabha group.


Similarly, Jayalalithaa restructured the group in the Rajya Sabha. Navaneethakrishnan has replaced V Maitreyan as the floor leader in the Upper House.


B Muthukaruppan, L Sasikala Pushpa, R Lakshmanan and T Rathnavel have been appointed as deputy leader, whip, treasurer and secretary of party's Rajya Sabha group.


Jayalalithaa also removed Maitreyan from the post of party's medical wing secretary.
