Heavy rainfall in most parts of Goa, more in next 2 days

PANAJI: The southwest monsoon has become very active over Goa, as many places in the state recorded rainfall of more than 100mm on Thursday.

While Ponda recorded 112.2mm, Old Goa received 104.0mm, Mapusa 102.0mm and Panaji 101.4mm. Other centres also recorded heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, the monsoon activity was widespread and heavy rainfall continued throughout the day.


Sources at the meteorological centre in the city stated that the low pressure area over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh is persisting. "The associated cyclonic circulation has yielded heavy rainfall," N Haridasan, assistant meteorologist at met centre, Panaji said.


The system is expected to become well marked during next 24 hours.


India meteorological department has forecast heavy rainfall over Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan on Friday, August 29, 2014 and heavy to very heavy rainfall over Goa, Konkan and other places on Saturday, August 30, 2014.
