Traffic cops ask advertising body to take bike commercial off air

MUMBAI: A day after TOI reported about activists fuming over a sports bike commercial that encourages dangerous driving, the traffic police asked the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) to take it off air. "We have complained to the ASCI's office in Tardeo. They have assured us that the commercial will be pulled off within 10 days," said joint CP (traffic) B K Upadhyaya.

The commercial shows a young man getting fully dressed while riding his bike dangerously. He then goes to pick up a girl who is not ready and encourages her to get dressed on the bike as well. The commercial raised the heckles of activists and the traffic cops alike as they feared that it sent a wrong message to all sections of society. Two people have already filed online complaints with the ASCI last week.
