Satrol Khap women wing chief slams Aggarwal Samaj for its 'biased decision'

CHANDIGARH: Chief of the women wing of Haryana's Satrol Khap, which had recently broken the 650-year-old tradition by allowing marriages within its social jurisdiction, has slammed Aggarwal Samaj for banning dancing by women during wedding processions. To register their protest, Khap's women wing president Sudesh Chaudhary, along with a couple of activists, held a press conference at Hisar on Wednesday.

She said that such a diktat should not be passed against only women while the community had not ordered a similar ban on dances by men during weddings.

According to Sudesh, female members have traditionally been dancing at their homes to during marriage functions. "Now, women dance even during the baraat ghurchari (marriage procession) keeping in view the change in society. Women have also right to express their feelings and they should not be targeted every time in the name of traditions or anything else," she remarked.

"If any organization or community wants to really reform the system then it should stop the culture of use of fire arms during wedding functions," she suggested.
