HYDERABAD: The Telangana Congress on Monday urged state election commissioner B Ramakanth Reddy to conduct the elections to the heads of municipal and panchayat bodies without any delay.
Party senior leaders B Kamalakar Rao (former MLC), A Shyam Mohan (chairman, intellectual cell) and P Narasimha Reddy presented a memorandum to this effect to the commissioner on Monday. "You have assured us that elections will be conducted for the chiefs of municipal and zilla parishads and mandal parishads as soon as the elected representatives of Lok Sabha and Assembly took oath. Even though this process is over, the election to these bodies has still not been held," the memorandum said. They urged the commissioner to issue notification to conduct the elections immediatelyto empower the local bodies as per the constitution.
