Modi's rally venue in Kalyan shifted for security reasons

KALYAN: The venue of the rally of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Kalyan on Monday has been changed to Fadke maidan in the Lal Chowcky area, from Subhash maidan, after the Thane police asked for a change citing security reasons.

The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation had initially given permission to hold the rally in Subash maidan. Police sources said Subash maidan area a communally sensitive spot with a history of communal riots. Also, the maidan has only two entry and exit points, which the police found was not enough to regulate a massive crowd of one lakh expected to attend the rally.

On Saturday, after the police order, the BJP started preparations for the rally at Fadke maidan on a war footing. They expect the work to be complete by Sunday evening. A special security team for Narendra Modi from Delhi inspected Fadke maidan on Sunday.
