Sri Lanka releases 17 Indian fishermen

CHENNAI: Seventeen Indian fishermen along with eight of their fishing boats are heading home after being released by Sri Lankan authorities on Friday.

Indian Coast Guard ship Rajshree took them over from a Sri Lankan naval ship on the Indo-Sri Lankan International Maritime Boundary Line at 2pm.

The repatriated fishermen are expected to arrive at Karaikal on Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Indian Coast Guard.

The Indian Coast Guard eastern region has helped repatriation of 334 Indian fishermen and their 53 boats since January this year.
