Fresh snowfall in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Summer capital Srinagar and other places in the valley received fresh snowfall and the weather office said more is expected in higher reaches on Monday.

Srinagar city and other major towns in hinterland received fresh snowfall on Sunday night as reports of heavy snowfall came in from north Kashmir's Sonamarg, Gulmarg hill stations and other higher reaches.

There has been heavy snowfall on the Zojila Pass that connects the valley with Ladakh region of the state.

The pass remains closed for more than five months each year because of heavy snowfall.

Reports from south Kashmir's Pahalgam hill station also said there was heavy snowfall on Sunday night.

Heavy snowfall has also occurred in the Bannihal sector of the over 300-km long Srinagar-Jammu highway and authorities have temporarily stopped the movement of vehicles on the road.
