Chakala metro station name changed to Chakala — J B Nagar

MUMBAI: The Chakala Metro station name has now been been altered to 'Chakala (J B Nagar) Metro Station' after the locals demanded the retention of the area J B Nagar. Chakala is around 2 km away the proposed MMRDA / Reliance Metro stop, which therefore had angered the residents of J B Nagar.

J B Nagar is named after the Gandhian philanthropist and freedom fighter, Jamanalal Bajaj, said the Vile Parle MLA, Krishna Hegde, who had met the MMRDA officials to get J B Nagar included in the metro station name.

Several Associations of J B Nagar had also met Hegde.

Hegde, earlier, met UPS Madan, the MMRDA Commissioner, but due to Computerization Mapping, Routes, Ticketing and Central government procedures the same could not be done.

Hegde then suggested that the Station then be called Chakala (J B Nagar) to tide over the insurmountable issues.

This afternoon, MMRDA Commissioner UPS Madan confirmed to Hegde that his request is agreed upon and the alternate name: Chakala (J B Nagar) has been sent for notification / approval to the Central government.

"We are happy that our MLA has been able to convince the authorities when all had failed. Several organizations and residents of J B Nagar will be happy with the development," said Surinder Singh, one of the residents.
