Couple enters wedlock to celebrate Tamil Nadu govt's move to release Rajiv assassins

SALEM: A couple who hailed from different castes got married in front of a Dr Ambedkar statue in Salem city on Wednesday to celebrate Tamil Nadu government's move to seek release of all Rajiv Gandhi assassins.

R Senthil (28) and K Kavitha (23) from Mayiladudurai in Nagapattinam district had been in love for fiver years, but their parents were opposed to their marriage as they were from different castes. Senthil was a dalit while Kavitha hailed from a vanniyar family.


"We have been waiting for our parent's consent for our marriage, but they were against it. Today, the Tamil Nadu government decided to seek release of Rajiv Gandhi assassins. This day would be a historic day. We want to perform our marriage on this spectacular occasion. So we have performed our marriage in front of the Ambedkar statue," Senthil said.


The couple said they would not follow any caste. "We are totally against the caste system and we will not follow any particular caste," Kavitha said.
