MUMBAI: Most of the 100 collegians and postgraduates interviewed for a college survey claimed that they were dissatisfied with the current political scenario and have lost faith in the country's democratic system. Sixty-two of the educated youth claimed that they do not have a voting card and 78 of those who have one, have never exercised their voting rights. The survey was conducted for a college project which won a silver medal in the recent inter-university state-level competition, Avishkar.
Ninety-two of the youth claimed that they were not satisfied with the political scenario and 90 felt the concept of 'government of the people, for the people and by the people' does not exist.
Eight-four of them said that they were willing to vote in the 2014 general elections but the remaining decided to never vote.
Seventy of the students interviewed were unaware that they, as voters, have an option of choosing 'None of the above' ( NOTA) from the candidates' list.
Jaimin Shah, a student of Ghanshyamdas Saraf College, who conducted the survey, said there must be more awareness among youth about the electoral process in the country and also the process of acquiring a voter's card should be expedited and be user-friendly.
