Mechanic kidnaps boy, kills him to hide crime

HYDERABAD: A four-year-old LKG student, who went missing from Mangalhat on Tuesday evening, was found murdered at Narsingi on Wednesday morning.

R Yash Raj Kumar, son of Anil Kumar, was an LKG student at Krishnaveni Talent School in Mangalhat. At 3.30 pm on Tuesday, Yash returned home from school and immediately went out to play. However, when he did not return home, his parents set out on a search. Locals informed them that the boy was last seen travelling on the bike of a relative-cum-neighbour, Vinod Kumar.

On Wednesday morning, locals found the body of a boy in an isolated area near Peeram Cheruvu in Narsingi. Based on the school ID card on the body, cops identified him and informed his family members.

"One of the wrists of the boy was slit. A wire was tied around his neck, and the upper portion of the body, including the face, were burnt with petrol," Narsingi inspector R Sanjay Kumar said.

Mangalhat police had already picked up Vinod, a mechanic, in the wee hours of Wednesday. Once the murder came to light, Vinod was interrogated. He then confessed that he kidnapped the boy to collect Rs 20,000 as ransom in order to get back his bike which was seized by financiers for non-payment of loan. "Vinod abducted the boy in an inebriated condition, but could not muster the courage to make the ransom calls. As the boy was pressing Vinod to take him home, he murdered him to avoid detection of crime," a police official said.

"We suspect that Vinod might have lured the boy by offering a soft drink and chips," an officer said. An unopened packet of snacks was found next to the body.

A case was registered under section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
