Delhi govt warns protesting teachers of action

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday issued a warning to all protesting contractual workers, particularly guest teachers, to either resume work or face termination. To raise their demand for permanent jobs guest teachers have been protesting outside the Delhi secretariat for last 15 days.

Education minister Manish Sisodia said, "We are issuing orders that those who continue to skip school to protest here will not be allowed to continue as contractual teachers as well. We will have to reconsider our decision to accommodate them if their actions continue to cause inconvenience to students."

With school exams approaching fast, Sisodia said students are suffering because of the ongoing protest and the same will not be acceptable to the government. "We have already set up a time-bound high level committee to look into the process of regularization of these staffs. However, we have time and again repeated that we would not overpass the process to accommodate one group only because it is protesting outside. The rule of eligibility will apply equally to everyone," he added.
