Congress-RJD-LJP alliance talks in final stage

NEW DELHI: Talks for an alliance between Congress and RJD in Bihar have entered a crucial phase with Lalu Prasad meeting Rahul Gandhi on Monday even as the Congress vice-president defended the possible tie-up in an interview. Lalu's meeting with Rahul was the second this month, a strong indicator that the talks are in the final lap.

Sources said the "secular alliance" in Bihar will include RJD, Congress and LJP of Ram Vilas Paswan while Sharad Pawar's NCP may also be part of it.

In his interview to Times Now, Rahul virtually confirmed the alliance, saying poll pacts were made on the basis of a shared view point. He defended Congress against tying with RJD despite its leader Lalu facing corruption charges, saying, "We are making an alliance with a view, not an individual ... we are making an alliance with a political party."

According to sources, seat-sharing has been a ticklish issue since all the potential partners are pushing for a higher share of the 40 seats.
