BJP chargesheets Arvind Kejriwal for 'lies'

NEW DELHI: As the AAP government, led by CM Arvind Kejriwal, completed a month in power, Delhi BJP launched a "30 days, 30 lies" campaign, accusing the government of not fulfilling its promises. The leader of the opposition in Delhi assembly, Harsh Vardhan, accused the government of misleading people with impractical and false promises.

The list of 30 accusations included AAP's decision to form a government. "Mr Arvind Kejriwal formed the government with a strength of 28 MLAs and a secret understanding with Congress. He had promised he would not take any post even if they won the election. From the very first day, it became evident that his display of being a simple common man was nothing but a sham," alleged Vardhan. "The very first day he breached security rules of Delhi Metro by allowing video recordings of his travel and by disrupting the travel schedule of the passengers."

He slammed the Kejriwal government for "blowing up crores of taxpayers' hard-earned money" by staging the oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan instead of the assembly.

The government has also not done much on the women's issues it had listed in its agenda, claimed Vardhan. "It was promised that a special commando force will be put in place. It was also promised that fast-track courts will be set up for quick hearings in cases of crimes against women. Nothing has been done so far," he alleged.

The Kejriwal government was also accused of failing to meet his own deadline on Jan Lokpal Bill. "It was promised that strong measures would be taken to eradicate corruption if AAP came to power," he said.

Vardhan criticized the ministers for commuting in expensive cars bearing VIP numbers and taking government accommodation despite their proclaimed resistance to VIP culture. "The CM is the protector of law and order. But our CM staged a protest in front of Rail Bhawan, breaking the law himself by breaching section 144 to protect his law minister, Somnath Bharti. Bharti, in turn, had been accused of breaking the law by ordering an illegal raid, forcibly entering the residence of some female students of foreign origin and misbehaving and racially abusing them,"he said.
