The woman, who lives on platforms and cleans lavatory at Mumbai Central on contract, lost her job a few days ago. On Thursday night, she boarded a local and went off to sleep. The local terminated at Borivli and was sent to the yard. "The accused woke her up and showed her a wad of currency notes. He asked her if she was hungry and told her to come along. Sensing something amiss, the woman hit him with her slipper and escaped," said senior inspector S Bagal, Borivli GRP.
"A guard noticed the woman and the man chasing her. He caught the man and shooed him of. He stayed with her for sometime," said activist Piyusha Mehta, who met the woman at 1 am. "I took her to a hospital and then to the GRP. The cops were not ready to register an FIR. They relented by Friday," Mehta said. The accused also tried to strangulate her, he said. "The man was 5.6 ft and dressed in a shirt and jeans," Bagal said, denying allegations of delay in registration of an FIR.
