HYDERABAD: Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Wednesday faced an embarrassing situation when striking APSRTC workers here refused to take his support by shouting 'Rajagopal go back'. The angry workers said they would welcome public representatives only after they quit their positions. The intense arguments between the RTC workers and the supporters of Rajagopal led to commotion at the rasta roko venue on MG road in the city. Feeling humiliated, Rajagopal staged a sit-in on the divider at MG road and wanted RTC leaders to allow him to address. He said he would leave the place if he failed to make his point on not quitting the Lok Sabha seat. "We do not want any more to be tricked by public representatives. They failed to keep the state united," RTC workers JAC convener D Eswar told the MP.
RTC workers joined Eswar in chorus shouting that Rajagopal go back. They alleged that public representatives from Seemandhra region were not prepared to lose their positions.
With Rajagopal not budging from his protest, police moved additional forces to protect him from the angry workers. The APSRTC workers said they have been striking for the last 17 days and people from the entire region have been virtually on streets for the past one month.
