Narendra Dabholkar’s office gets threat letter

PUNE: Nine days after Narendra Dabholkar was shot dead, a threat letter was received at the Sadhana Media Centre, the office of a magazine the anti-superstition crusader edited.

The letter warned members of the anti-superstition committee that was headed by Dabholkar to stop their activities. "If you play with the religious faith of people, you will meet the same fate (like Dabholkar)," it says. The letter also contains some derogatory comments about Dabholkar, his former colleagues and a Marathi actor.

Additional commissioner of police (crime) Shahaji Solunke said the committee officials had handed over the letter to Vishrambaugh police. "The handwritten letter has the stamp of the city post office," a police officer said. "We suspect some local person may have posted it."

Senior inspector Arjun Sakunde said a team of four constables had been deployed at Shaniwar Peth police chowki, which is near the Sadhana Media Centre, to keep vigil.
