Doubting husband kills woman in front of son

NEW DELHI: A 44-year-old woman, mother of two children, was found murdered at her residence on Thursday morning.

The incident was reported by the son of the victim, Mamta Tiwari, from Farsh Bazaar near Karkardooma in east Delhi. DCP (east) Ajay Kumar said the 15-year-old, a witness, accused his father of the murder.

"The boy told us that it was his father, Ajay Tiwari, manager of a security firm in Delhi, had murdered his mother. Ajay even called up his son-in-law, A Pandey, and told him to take care of the boy as he had murdered his wife. He ended the call by saying he could murder his son if the boy would become a burden on his son-in-law," said an investigating officer. A murder case has been registered. The accused, Ajay, is on the run. Police said the couple's relations had been strained for the past several years. Ajay suspected his wife of having an affair with a priest staying at the nearby Krishna Nagar.

"Mamta invited her daughter, son-in-law and the priest to her house on Janmasthami. This sparked off an argument between the couple. After the guests had left in the evening, the couple had another round of arguments which dragged on till 10.30pm," said the officer.

Ajay picked up a fight again on Thursday morning. "Suddenly, Ajay sent his household help on an errand. He then tore the rope from the paalna of Krishna and used it to throttle his wife while the son watched in horror. He made the call to his son-in-law from the landline before fleeing,'' said an officer.

A terrified Pandey, who stays in Nand Nagri, asked a relative to check the house. "When the relative confirmed the murder, he informed police. A team has picked up evidence from the spot. The accused is said to have been involved in domestic abuse but we were never alerted," said the police officer.
