Controversial cop arrested

MAHBUBNAGAR: The police on Thursday arrested suspended controversial constable Giri Prasad Sharma within a day after he released a police transport organisation employee, whom he had allegedly kidnapped.

Sharma had claimed that he had kidnapped three persons including a political leader.

Four special police teams were after Sharma and they finally arrested him at Balanagar town in Mahbubnagar district.

Tracking the mobile phone of Sharma, the police teams reached Balanagar and arrested him on Thursday afternoon.

Sharma has kicked off a controversy in the police department through his 'kidnaps'. On Wednesday, he abducted two employees and a BJP leader demanding reforms in the police transport organisation. He uploaded the video footage of Ramana Rao, whom he had kidnapped, on his website, 'Constable'. Hyderabad range DIG Naveen Chand said Sharma was arrested by Hyderabad police.
