Another woman assaulted on WR local at Goregaon station

MUMBAI: In yet another attack on a woman commuter, Rupali Shinde (28) sustained injuries to her forehead after a stranger assaulted her with a sharp weapon at Goregaon railway station on Monday evening.

Shinde, who was headed to her Nalasopara residence when the incident occurred, described the attacker as a tall and hefty man. He escaped from the crowded station after the assault.

Shinde, who works in a manufacturing firm at Goregaon, was on platform 3 at Goregaon, waiting to board a Virar-bound local. As the train approached, battling the crowd, Shinde got ready to jump into the second class ladies compartment, towards the Virar-end of the train. She had barely stepped in when the accused assaulted her.

Shinde, who was bleeding, began to feel dizzy, but co-passengers, some of them her regular train friends, helped her. They used dupattas to cover the wound and control the bleeding.

Shinde was taken to Alliance Hospital in Nala Sopara, where doctors said her condition was stable. Doctors believe the assault may have been caused by a blade.

The Vasai Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a case against an unknown person.

A week back, an American, Michelle Marks, was mugged by a drug addict on a Western Railway local between Marine Lines and Charni Road stations. Last month, a nurse was molested on a local near Mahalaxmi by a thief who had boarded the ladies coach.
