1 held for shooting at East Delhi teenager

NEW DELHI: Three weeks after 26-year-old Komal Malhotra was shot at while trying to resist chain snatchers outside her house in Jhilmil Colony near Vivek Vihar, the east Delhi police have arrested one of the snatchers. The accused has been identified as Kamal (22), a resident of Nand Nagri, against whom there are 11 cases of attempt to murder, snatching and theft.

The cops believe that the other accused, Rahul, might be involved in a case in which a jeweller was shot at in Farsh Bazar a few days ago.

On July 29 around 8.20am, complainant Anshu Bhasin, a resident of Vivek Vihar, was returning home when two men on a bike tried to snatch her gold chain. She caught hold of one of the snatchers. Hearing her screams, Komal, who was sweeping porch of her house, rushed to help Anshu. The pillion rider shot at Komal, who ducked and the bullet pierced her index finger and hit her chest. However, she held on to the chain.

"During the probe, many people were interrogated, CCTV footage was checked and portraits of the accused were prepared with help of the victims. Accused Kamal alias Brahamdutt was arrested after a tip-off," said DCP (east) Ajay Kumar. During interrogation, Kamal revealed that he and Rahul were involved in a number of snatching cases. On the day of the incident, Rahul was riding the bike, while Kamal was the pillion rider.
